If you’ve ever walked into a room and instantly felt “off,” there’s a good chance the energy (or chi, as it’s called in feng shui) was out of balance. When it comes to your bedroom, where you recharge and rest, the way you place your bed can actually play a big role in how well you sleep and how peaceful your space feels.
Here are a few feng shui bed placement tips to help you realign your room—and maybe even your life.
1. Embrace the “Command Position”
One of the most important rules in feng shui is placing your bed in the command position. This means your bed should be positioned so you can see the door, but not be directly in line with it. Ideally, you want a clear view of who enters without being in the path of the energy coming through.
Pro tip: If a direct line of sight to the door isn’t possible, a mirror can help reflect the entrance and restore balance.
2. Don’t Let Your Feet Point Out the Door
In feng shui, this is called the “coffin position” (yikes, we know). Having your feet point straight at the door is considered unlucky. If that’s the only layout that works in your room, consider placing a bench or soft barrier at the foot of the bed to soften the energy.
3. Choose a Solid Headboard
A sturdy headboard symbolizes support and stability in your life—especially in relationships. Bonus points if it’s securely attached and made of solid wood or upholstered for comfort and strength.
4. Avoid Sleeping Under Beams or Sloped Ceilings
Beams or heavy overhead structures can create a feeling of pressure or stress. If you can’t avoid them, a canopy or drapery can help diffuse that downward energy.
5. Keep It Balanced
Try to create symmetry with nightstands and lamps on both sides of the bed. Not only does this look great, but it also promotes balanced relationships and equality in partnerships.
6. No Clutter Under the Bed
Storage is tempting, but clutter under the bed can disrupt your subconscious while you sleep. If you must use the space, keep it limited to soft items like linens or out-of-season clothing—and skip anything sentimental or emotionally charged.
7. Keep the Electronics to a Minimum
We get it—charging your phone by your bed is super convenient. But in feng shui, electronics can disturb the peaceful, restorative energy of your space. Try charging in another room or at least turning devices on “Do Not Disturb.”
Creating a calming bedroom isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. Whether you follow every rule or just pick the ones that resonate with you, a few simple changes can bring more harmony, rest, and positive vibes into your life.
